White Noise: A Singular Collection Heads to Bonhams

The late British entrepreneur, businessman and motorcyclist Robert White has left a rather special legacy of the sort any gentleman of taste would be proud to own

Bonhams, which will auction his collection in London in September, values the lot at over £2 million. It features a “vast treasure trove of collectible mechanical delights” including motorcycles, motor cars, vintage Leica cameras, motoring mascots, and several rare wristwatches. Before his death last year White sold his astonishing array of Brough Superiors to Jay Leno for  £3.5 million.

Motorcycles featured in the collection include an MV Agusta 500cc 3-Cylinder Grand Prix recreation, estimated at £80,000-100,000; a 1974 Ducati 750SS, estimated at £60,000-70,000; and a 1951 Vincent 998cc Series C Black Shadow, estimated at £50,000-70,000. Add to that four lovingly maintained motor cars, including a superb 1930 Bentley 4½-Litre Tourer with Le Mans style coachwork; and a 1959 AC Ace-Bristol Roadster, estimated at £180,000-220,000. Individually they are of course worth quite a bit, but when seen together they offer the truest version of White’s vision and eye for the very best in British design. Which is why you should man up and buy the whole show…..

Words by: JPS for duncan quinn It may surprise you to learn that the most beautiful Porsche ever built is not the 911.
