Quinn + Tonik Vol. 3
Sex. Gold. Booze. Bush planes. Safari estates. All the elements necessary to light up your serotonin receptors…
Before John Grisham had established unusual American legal cases as the pulp fiction of the masses, Wilbur Smith had given us adventure in the dark heart of Africa. This one won't boost your IQ or help you negotiate that next meeting, but it may stretch your imagination.
And if you can't stretch your imagination far enough you can always watch the movie instead. Roger Moore, Susannah York, and Sir John Gielgud romping around the African bush fueled by greed, scotch, and gold.
For me, and millions of others, it was Africa writ large.
The Elephant Charge
In the early 1990's DQ was studying for his first law degree. Being DQ that meant rowing crew, partaking in beer and creme egg races around the quad in tuxedos, and running all the parties he could manage to dream up. He once even shut down most of a street and 1,500 people turned up to a student party in three adjacent rented townhouses with more than just five foot bubbles blowing out of the windows. Suffice to say DQ could count the local Police as attendees of the mayhem…
A man can’t do all of these things on his own, though, which is where we swerve back to the dark heart of Africa. Zambia to be precise. As DQ's partner in crime in all these escapades was a gent named Zambian.
DQ started visiting him in the mid-1990’s. First to indulge in wondrous safaris, bungee jumps, white water rafting, and general adventures of the African kind. And, latterly, to aid in raising money for conservation by participating in The Elephant Charge.
The Elephant Charge is now in its 10th year and supports many conservation charities in Zambia. DQ will be participating once again in a rally prepped 1970 Land Rover Series 2A 109" truck.
The Elephant Charge Tee
Every year we make a special team kit for the Elephant Charge. Now we're offering you an opportunity to partake. Not only can you get a cool DQ Elephant Charge tee-shirt, but 25% of every sale will go to the Elephant Charge helping to fund conservation in Zambia.
The Gear That Powers The Charge
Yet again Cooper STT Pro tyres are our tyre of choice for the 10th anniversary Elephant Charge in the Zambian bush. 3-ply Armor-Tek walls, silica tread compound, a unique 3x2 center rib tread pattern…
When you find yourself nose down in a river, stuck on the rocks and unable to move, even with the 4x4, it's time to roll up your sleeves and find a suitable tree to use as a pivot to pull yourself out. And when you are pulling up those sleeves you want the winch on your car to be from WARN Industries, Inc.
And now time for a Bevvy
As Sir Roger Moore may have done...
