Italy’s Loro Piana is legendary in the world of fine gent’s tailoring for its impeccable cashmere and wool fabrics

But over the past several years they’ve become equally renowned in the realm of high-end yachting by sponsoring the eye-popping Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, one of the world’s top yacht races for the multimillionaire set. And this year’s edition is about to get underway in one of the most beautiful places on the planet, the British Virgin Islands, a change from last year’s race in Sardinia. Set for March 9 to 12, a record 29 superyachts are set to take part.

Some of the yachts on contention for the coveted trophy this year include Clan VIII, Ganesha and Ocean Phoenix. The 77-ft. Phoenix, one of the sexiest sailers on the water, was custom built in 1996 by Pendennis and last refitted in 2011. The yacht’s cool contemporary interior was designed by the famed Ken Freivokh. When the owner isn’t racing and cruising, it’s available for charter at $21,000 per week. Ganesha, a previous winner, is an even more impressive bit of kit. At 150 ft. the Dubois-designed yacht was launched by Vitters in 2013. A performance cruiser that accelerates like a racing yacht, its designed for the “utmost luxury” no matter what’s going on out in the water.
